When I came to Australia one person more than others cared endlessly about Mike and I making a good kickoff with our work.
She had us invited to one of the swankiest opera and art filled home parties I've been to (The place had 2x Rubes ffs)
She gave us a museum members christmas party invitation and later full membership
She had us over for orthodox Christmas and several other lovely dinners which ended in lots of tupperware bringing homes.
She feed us, guided us and connected us.
All while caring for a soon to be 101 year old husband.
So I made her a true-self portait.
The center features a Phrenology Head as she's a psychologist teacher
But I replaced it's typical flimsy titles like "seat of spirituality" with the chemical components of the brain
The head is partly covered with a saintly 3 striped shroud as she does a lot of good for her community and to represent Mary
The bowl contains her famous Polish inspired soup, representing her past from Europe, and within it floats a globe with Australia in the center
Bread is broken outwards to strangers - as I myself experienced
The triangle of orbs represent her 3 grandkids - Tanya, James and Michael
Her favorite flower and the national flower of Autralia is there
And the cherry trees represents her's and her hubby's strong relations with Japan
I think I missed a few. But that is the jist of it.
She got it for her Christmas present - a large and painted unto 60 inch wide print.
